Road Runner

The Roadrunner is a speedy little bird that tries getting away from a hungry wolf.

The hungry wolf does everything he can to catch the Roadrunner. She is blue, red and yellow and her eyes are big and bulgie.

The Roadrunner is a cool little bird.

This person has black hair and shiny brown eyes. His cheeks only shine a little bit pale red.

He likes doing sports and riding bikes. He likes playing video games, just like me. This person is ten years old and has lots of friends. I am one of his best friends.

I enjoy being Kaloni’s best friend.

The Big Dig

The big dig

1. In 2004  a storm led to lots of landslides and they closed the roads for 75 days.

2. But this latest slip was something else and work started straight away.

3. Diggers were used to dump rocks in big trucks but as they worked more rock and earth slid down.

4. The road couldn’t be reopened until the hillside was hard enough.

5. The team cut down trees and bushes to reach the top of the slip.

6. It was time to bring in the bandit. The bandit is a grunty bulldozer whose scoop had been replaced with a winch and heavy duty cables. Heavy diggers were then lowered down the very slippery slip while the bandit held them in place with its mighty cables.

7. A 20 tonne digger  scooped up great scoops of rock and earth.

8. The Manawatu gorge road was reopened to all  traffic in September.

ME

My name is William and I am 4th out of 6 children. I have rosey red cheeks and hazel eyes. My hair is an auburn colour. I am 10 years old and I’m more than 1 metre tall. My family has lots of animals. We have 12 smoochy cats, 4 chirpy birds, 1 speedy dog and 2 fat fish. I live at a nice warm house full of light. My two sisters and me go to the adventurous Otama School, where we have lots of friends. I like competing against others in athletics and sports. My favourite sport would be rugby because it is a great sport for running and ball skills.
I enjoy just being me.

For this reading activity I had write out the title, main characters, setting, the problem, the complications and how the story ended.

Title: Sparks

Main Characters: Mum, Dad, Dillon and Harley

Setting: The driveway, street, house and the park

Situation: Dillon got a new scooter for his birthday

Problem: Dillon wasn't willing to give Harley a turn which led the parents to fight if he should let him or not.

Complications: Dividing the family and not working together.

How the story ends: The family comes together as one and Harley thinks Dillons better without the scooter.
